What would the pirate currency "pieces of 8" be worth today in US currency and not from a collector's point of view?

    Question #111331. Asked by 29CoveRoad. (Dec 07 09 6:46 PM)

It depends on the exchange rate. Gold and silver prices per ounce fluctuate on a day-to-day basis. "Pieces of 8" usually contain about .7797 ounces of silver. Thus, today's silver price (as of 12/7/09) would make a piece of 8 worth about $14.43.

Here's the link to the weight of a Piece of 8

And I just looked up today's going rate for silver. It fluctuates daily and there are dozens of websites that give you the daily fluctuations.
