Being a baseball fan since the 1980's, I'll hazard an educated guess. The wind conditions at Candlestick Park when the Giants played there gave them what may be considered the biggest "home-field advantage" in baseball at the time. Outfielders, most notably Jeff Leonard, knew to adjust their defense and could play shallower than usual. Hence they would catch balls that would normally fall for singles, and be able to position themselves properly to play balls off the carom if one went to the gap. The wind made Candlestick Park a notoriously difficult place to play for visiting teams.
Being that the Emerald Bowl is played in winter, I feel the wind conditions are more bearable at AT&T Park. Candlestick Park is almost right on the bay, in one of the coldest areas of the city.

Hope this helps...all my best.
