    As of 2004, what were the 3 assault rifles in competition to replace the aging M16 as the US Army standard issue rifle?

    		A partial replacement for the M16 rifle is the SOF Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR), designated Mk 16.
    The Heckler & Koch HK416 has been in use by Delta Force since 2004.
    In the 1980s, the M249 was issued to infantry units, replacing some M60s and some M16A1s at the squad level.
