She was Duchess of Windsor, as her husband Edward was given the title of Duke of Windsor after he abdicated, but there were letters patent passed to prevent her from being known as 'Her Royal Highness'. However, this was subsumed by the superior appellation Her Grace, to which she was entitled as a duchess.
