If you want to go international, the price of petrol ('gas') in the northern suburbs of Melbourne today was $A1.29 per litre, which is roughly $A5.86 a gallon. Using the current exchange rate that is $US5.30 a gallon. Today is the bottom of the weekly price swing. The highest price in recent times was about $A1.50 a litre, roughly &A6.80 a gallon. I don't know what the exchange rate was then. And I am sure there are other countries with higher prices!
