All sounds are echoes, Wolfs howl travels through the environment, trees, ridges, rock cliffs and valleys reflect and scatter it. As a result, competing packs hear a very complex mix of both direct sound and echoes.

False. Given the right scientific conditions, any sound will echo. Some just may be harder to achieve than others, and a wolf's howl in a forest may not seem to echo whereas one in the mountains may.
If you trust snopes, here's an article that discusses the rumor that a duck's quack does not echo. In the article, it reinforces the notion that any sound can echo.
