How long from now will fresh water on the Earth last?

The Earth's water moves in a continuous cycle of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. All water used by humans eventually goes back into this cycle.
Water moves through the water cycle, but surface fresh water is a dwindling commodity. Estimates of how long it will be until demand irremediably exceeds supply vary, and are based on models using inbuilt assumptions about continued patterns of use which may well prove to be inaccurate.
All the words in this quiz begin with "long". Adding another word to the end of long will create an entirely new word. I will give the meaning of the new word and you must indicate what word needs to be added.
