    What is the scientific name for water?

    Dihydrogen monoxide or DHMO is another way to say water and has been used in hoaxes or jokes on people unfamiliar with the word, such as this website.

    H2O because that is how water is scientifically named using its elements on the periodic table. H stands for hydrogen and the two is how many hydrogen atoms there are. The O stands for oxygen and if there is no number after it, it means there is one atom of that element.
