I was born in the second half of the 19th century. In my early life I spent a short time as a writer, but events put an end to that. I enjoyed life as an artist, being an accomplished painter. Later I become involved in trade and worked on social reform to improve the prison system. I developed an interest in aviation and flew aircraft. I tried to get elected to parliment but was defeated. During the 1930s many saw me as a right wing extremist. I saw active service in World War II. I returned to writing for a few years and was rewarded for my efforts. I spent some time in the United States, and died in the second half of the 20th century. Who am I?

While there appear to be some similarities, I doubt it is Churchill, who was successfully elected to Parliament, and who spent WWII as Lord of the Admiralty (in Cabinet), not on active service.

I don't think he ever learned to fly, either... Or got involved in trade. He was PM for most of WWII.

Not Wyndham Lewis - he painted, wrote and then painted. But I'll admit I haven't yet found an aviator who painted, or a painter who aviated.

Yes Jolana send you the million dollar prize later. Don't know about the flying did he get in the air, I think there was something about a crash, not sure, maybe someone can fill us in. The active service well sitting in a ship miles out to sea and having it fire on a target it can't reach, well, um, call it what you like, did like action though, the King did order Winston not to go with the troops on D Day, and no one can say he didn't enjoy a good war!

"In 1911, Churchill was transferred to the office of the First Lord of the Admiralty, a post he held into World War I. He gave impetus to several reform efforts, including development of naval aviation (he undertook flying lessons himself)"

I was born in the second half of the 19th century in Victoria. With little formal education, leaving school when barely in my teens, I then become self educated. My early employment was in newspapers. I later worked in manufacturing. I played a musical instrument and was a leader in a church band. During World War I, I became involved in the conscription debate. Again I worked for a newspaper. I was married in 1917 but the marriage was not a happy one, although some said that was the doing of my spouse. I spent some time as a member of the States Grants Commission and also sat on a Royal Commission. With Italy's invasion of Abyssinia I called for unity and a strong stand from Australia. I'd seen the war clouds abroad. I strongly believed Australia's defence weakness had to be remedied. At the outbreak of war I proposed Australia set up an Advisory War Council. My views on the war were not popular with all and at times I came under strong attack from those on the left. I strongly believed in Australia making her own assessments and acting accordingly when dealing with war issues. Later events would vindicate my stand. I made a long trip to Britain, hoping to improve relations and to some degree this was successful. I think most thought I had done a good job and that was it. Who am I?

Born in the second half of the nineteenth century, the son of a clerk, I joined the party in the 1900's, and I worked on a newspaper. By the outbreak of World War I, I had risen to prominence, but I was not a military man. During the time of the great power struggle I played my cards right, operating behind the scenes. I liked to look my best. Still a leading figure before and after the war I knew them all, the great and the infamous. I retired from public life, an achievement in itself. I lived a very long life. Who am I? Born to Irish immigrants in the second half of the 19th century, my early working life was as an apprentice machinist. After my marriage, I managed a saw mill, later working as an engineer. I lived beyond 80 years and a quote of mine is, "History is more or less bunk..."
