In nuclear weapons terminology, what is the difference between first strike and first use?

    Question #113908. Asked by star_gazer. (Apr 05 10 4:00 PM)

"First use" simply refers to who was the first one to push the buttons that activate their nuclear weaponry.
"First Strike" refers more to the whole strategy behind "first use", in the sense that "the one who hits first, hits hardest", and not only reduces the opponent's ability to strike back, but hopefully it achieves the slim chance of deterring them completely, or damaging them to the point of being unable to strike back.

Let's pray neither term comes to fruition.
