    Why did Henry VIII divorce rather than behead Anne of Cleves, as he had done Anne Boleyn four years earlier?

    		Henry VIII first met Anne of Cleaves after the marriage was previously arranged. He was not impressed with her for a number of reasons including a lack of physical attraction. He called her a "Flanders mare". Anne realized her life would be in danger if she put up any opposition to a divorce so she agreed to an annulment. Henry was delighted. He already had his eye on his next wife Catherine Howard but women of English nobility were becoming reluctant to marry him because of his previous track record.
