How did a snail (or possibly a slug) and a legal pauper affect both modern English and Scottish law, and where is the monument to this case? (And for a non-existent ('cos we ain't allowed to give 'em) bonus, what was Baloo drinking when he typed this question?)

It was a tort negligence lawsuit known as the Paisley Snail incident, with a monument (memorial) in Paisley, Scotland. This was one of the most famous legal decisions in UK history.

You must have been drinking single malt scotch, straight up.

...and just like on "Who's Line is it Anyway?" the points don't matter.

Good work, Watson, but the wrong drink. While Baloo does like a good single malt now and then - and blended grain stuff in a hot toddy - it wasn't whisky but something more relevant.
The case affected the duty of care of manufacturers to ensure their products didn't have adverse effects on consumers (and probably put a lot of money in the pockets of lawyers too).

Could you have had gastroenteritis from drinking ginger beer that caused this ridiculous query?
