Coventry City. They joined the league in Division Two in 1919. They stayed there until they were relegated to the third tier in 1925. In their first season at that level, Coventry played in Division Three North, finishing 16th. For the next season, they were moved to Division Three South where they played until promoted in 1936.
They returned to Division Three South in 1952 and stayed there until the League was re-structured in 1958. Having finished in the bottom half of the table in the 1957/58 season, Coventry City began the 1958/59 season in the new Division Four. They were promoted in that first season and played in Division Three the next season. Just eight years later, under the management of Jimmy Hill, they were promoted to Division One for the first time in their history, remaining in that division for 26 seasons until the Premier League was formed in 1992. They were founder members of the FA Premier League, playing there for nine seasons before being relegated.
