    A handbasket is just a basket with a handle. The expression 'going to hell in a handbasket' means to deteriorate rapidly.

    		I asked the question. I had heard that the reference to a handbasket was the basket undertakers used to pick up bodies. It was a long light basket.Has anyone heard this?
