    Which green stone is sometimes used as a substitute for marble: jasper, tourmaline, serpentine, or agate?

    		Agate is somethimes used as a substitute for marble.

    		My 'Rocks and Minerals' book says that SERPENTINE, particularly the 'Verde Antique' variety, and deeply colored common serpentine, is sometimes used for carving, in place of marble.
