    http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/info/1906/ The magnitude on the Richter Scale was from 7.7 to 8.3 depending on the scientist. Their instuments were not as accurate as they are now. The crack in the earth was 291 miles long. The quake was felt 9100 miles away in Germany. A disastrous fire folowed the quake in San Francisco.
