    		Based in Geneva, the World Meteorological Organisation was set up in 1950 as a specialised agency of the United Nations. 189 member states and territories are affiliated to it. As well as co-ordinating global co-operation on weather forecasting and climate, it is responsible for critical roles associated with hydrology and water resources - which includes issues associated with drought and flood management.
