    Common starlings are thought to number in about 200 million in North America. However, it is a species not natural to the continent and is considered by many to be a nuisance bird. From where did this bird come and for what reason?

    The European Starling was brought to North America in an attempt to introduce all the birds of Shakespeare. 100 birds where released in Central Park between 1890-1891. And have now spread across North America.

    Ironically, throughout all of Shakespeare's plays, the starling is mentioned only once in Henry IV, Pt. 1.
