    This is more a metaphorical idiom than a proverb but the phrase to "burn bridges" usually means to recklessly act in a way that ensures there is no going back (e.g. telling your boss what you really think about him and the horse he rode in on).

    In 1988, Status Quo released a single called Burning Bridges. Being Londoners, Status Quo are natural Manchester Utd fans, so the song later became the football anthem "Come On You Reds".
