The videotaped trial of Nazi Adolf Eichmann was broadcast nationwide in Israel in 1961, as well as other locations around the world, and is often cited as the world's first televised trial. A trial in Oklahoma was televised (locally) in 1953 however.

Jack Ruby's verdict was televised in 1964:

His crime of course was also televised nationally.

According to this source, the first *live* U.S. nationwide broadcast of a trial was in 1984 by CNN, of a locally covered rape trial that garnered national attention.

The trial of the New Bedford 6 was the basis of the 1988 movie "The Accused".
