This site has a mixture of answers which includes the right one. The front is a square, so that the pitcher faces a straight front side, and the sides of the batting zone are defined by planes that are parallel to the line from pitcher to catcher. The point at the back (nearer the catcher) is shaped and positioned so that the sides are at right angels to each other, and (if extended) are in line with the two foul lines.
