My PC has just had a 4GB memory upgrade. When was it that all the world's computers had less than 4GB todether? I remember our work computer getting a 2K upgrade - it was in a cabinet slightly smaller than a two draw filing cabinet but it would have taken 3K.

I can't actually answer that question, but I can give you a piece of useless trivia and tell you that the first hard disk drive had a capacity of 4Mb, and was introduced by IBM in 1956.
The unit was about a six foot cube, and IBM leased out some 22,000 of them over a period of years. Putting that in perspective, the whole lot would fit comfortably onto a data DVD.
