Why is carbonated water called club soda?

    Question #117241. Asked by star_gazer. (Sep 01 10 11:47 PM)

The term "Club Soda" is a trademark owned by a company called Cantrell and Cochrane, of Belfast in Northern Ireland, and was originally patented in 1877.
It has now become a generic term for all soda water type drinks.
Below is the result of an application by another company for permission to trademark the name "Soda Club"
