Actually there were four players in an NBA game who scored forty or more. The visiting Detroit Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in triple overtime on December 13, 1983. Isiah Thomas had 47 points and John Long had 41 for the Pistons while Kiki Vandeweghe had 51 points for the Nuggets and Alex English added 47.
