    		Fredric Arnold created the first aluminum folding chair with fabric strapping in 1947 but they were already being used by Ancient Romans, Greeks and Egypt.

    		They were also used in Old Germanic tribes - the French word for armchair (fauteuil) comes from the Frankish 'faldistol' which in turn comes from Germanic. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/fauteuil

    		Folding chairs were already being used in Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. The curule chair of the Roman magistrate was a folding chair, as well as the seat of the emperor.
