The last witch to be executed in Scotland (Dornoch) was Janet Horne, who was executed in Loth Sutherland. Janet Horne was accused after the people from the surrounding area said she was a witch after they had jumped to conclusions after the birth of her daughter with a misshapen hand. They also thought this as Janet Horne was not a social person and kept to herself. Many people said that they had seen strange goings on in her house. Some even said they had seen Miss Horne conducting acts of witchcraft. They also thought that Janet Horne turned her daughter into a pony at night and this accounted for her daughter's disformed hand. Her last act before she was burnt was to warm her hands by the fire the people had made for her execution and she said 'what a bonnie blaze.'
