    Who has spent the longest cumulative time serving as U.S. President and/or Vice President or a combination of both?

    We'll have to see the math on this one, but I'll throw out (well, suggest) Richard Nixon. He was VP for 8 yrs. under Eisenhower and Prez for a full term plus 1 1/2 years of a second term. That comes out to 13 1/2 years. FDR was Prez for 12 1/4 yrs.

    From another angle: The short period Nixon did serve in his second term does make Nixon the longest-serving nationally elected office holder (with a total of 4,949 days when the 2,922 days he served as Vice President are incorporated) eclipsing Franklin D. Roosevelt by 527 days.
