In the business pages of the newspaper with the stock market or mutual funds, when something says +.24 or -.05, what exactly does that mean?

    Question #11872. Asked by notsmart.

    cocomojoe

the plus means that for the day the stock, fund, or index rose by the number given. for instance +.02 means the stock rose two cents per share for the day, which means if you had bought 1000 shares at the beginning of the day and sold them at the end of the day you would have made a $20.00 dollar profit. also, a negative means it lost money. so plus is good and minus is bad.
