Why is there no apostrophe on the flashing "DONT WALK" traffic signal?

    Question #118936. Asked by star_gazer. (Nov 25 10 11:00 AM)

On pedestrian signals displaying text, "don't walk" is spelled without an apostrophe so that it fits easily on the sign.

Punctuation is rarely used on traffic signs or signals except for certain parking signs, which are usually read from a slowly moving or stopped vehicle.
