    For non-soap products such as fabrics the main chemical used is silver. One theory is it was used for cutlery as the particles that came off during use acted in the same way.

    Alcohol is most commonly used in soaps and hand sanitizers, followed by iodine and hydrogen peroxide in medical uses.
