    Why is the song called "The Twelve Days of Christmas" when Christmas is only on one day, December 25th?

    		The twelve days generally begin with Christmas Day and extend to the Feast of the Epiphany, January 6th or what is technically called Twelfth Night. Some say this cumulative song began as a forfeit game associated with Twelfth Night. It apparently was intially French and is much older in its oral version than the written form which dates back to the eighteenth century.

    		Christmastide is the liturgical season from December 25 through to January 5. January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, signals the start of the next liturgical season. Christmas Day is only the first day of the season, which is 12 days long.
