One big deal about Paulus was that he was, according to Hitler, supposed to commit suicide after surrendering, but Paulus became a prisoner of the Soviets and worked against the Nazis as part of a National Committee to Free Germany. Paulus was freed from prison in 1953. Even more interesting is that Hitler in fury said he would never appoint another Field Marshall.
