And St. Helena...

How far is Moscow, or Cairo, from Ajaccio?
And is loominitsa's assertion about Washington true?
Well anyway, Maggie got it because of St Helena, but Washington traveled further than Cairo and Moscow when he went to Barbados...

GW got to Barbados - he would have got further if he'd gone to Appleby School or joined the Royal Navy, both of which were on the cards. Otherwise he got to the Ohio river and campaigned around the comparatively small territory of the 13 states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington
Question is, is is total travel or furthest point? Boney probably covered more miles all told, but... Are we counting from place of birth or place of main dwelling?
No, hang it. It's got to be Boney. How far is it to St Helena from anywhere, let alone France?
Just think how different things might be if GW had gone to Appleby and then joined the RN. Would there be dollars, and who'd be on them? (Free plotline for a book there for someone - not my style.)

From Corsica where he was born to St Helena where he died, Napoleon would have travelled 4731.742 miles according to Free Map Tools distance finder. The official White House site on George Washington gives no informaton about him ever having traveled abroad.
