The Seabed Arms Control Treaty, also known as the Seabed Treaty, is a multilateral treaty among the United States, United Kingdom, the Soviet Union and 84 other countries. Signed on February 11, 1971, it bans the placing of nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction (WMD) on the ocean bed beyond a specific coastal zone. This ban was enacted to prevent international conflict between the major world powers.
