    We have an electric hot water heater and electric stove. When boiling a pot of water is it more cost effective to fill the pot with hot water from the tap or cold water?

    		If the pot of water is being used for cooking one should never use hot water from the tap; it is too dirty.

    		Perhaps so,I read the article on your link, it gives good information and I take it very seriously but it is more a hypothetical question of economics. Boiling water can be used for many things like sterilization, heating bath water etc, etc.

    		Electric stoves tend to lose more heat to the environment than do immersion heaters. So you should be using a heating jug rather than a stove. But the question about relative efficiency of the hot water system and the subesequent heating method really depends on what type of electric hot water heater you have.
