I see that April 3 is called "Mothering Sunday" in the UK. Is that the same thing that is celebrated in the US called "Mother's Day"?

No, Mothering Sunday is a celebration on the 4th Sunday in Lent in the Church of England, not a public holiday. In the UK, it is sometimes considered to be the same as the international holiday, celebrated on different days in different places, of Mother's Day. But the origins are quite different.
In the United States, the Episcopalian Church also celebrates Mothering Sunday, also called Simnel Sunday. I have memories of eating Simnel cake at the post-service refreshments many years ago.
