    What is the origin of the name Highsmith (e.g. writer Patricia Highsmith)?

    		It is a compound surname. "High" , someone of great height, lofty, tall, exalted, while "Smith" derives from old english and it means "metal worker"

    Highsmith aka "the tall metalworker"
