    As "Star Trek" writers strive to stay scientifically consistent, how do the Changelings in "Deep Space Nine" get around the law of conservation of mass?

    It is speculated that they absorb matter from or emit matter into "subspace". Subspace must be a feature of the Star Trek universe outside conventional science. Subscience, maybe?
