    How often do earthworms clean their tunnels and bring their castings to the surface of the soil?

    		It appears earthworms leave their castings (poop) solely ON the surface and do not defecate in their tunnels at all. So, apparently, they leave castings whenever they have to poop and this is done on the surface of the soil.
