    Are herkimer diamonds actually diamonds?

    		No. They are actually quartz crystals and are found in Herkimer County, New York among other places. What makes them different from other quartz crystals is that they are doubly terminated--they are terminated on both ends. This also makes them look like diamonds, hence the name.
