    		The Emancipation of the British West Indies was proposed as early as 1787, but was not achieved until the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 (effective 1834).

    		More correctly, the slaves of Trinidad were fully emancipated in 1838, along with the slaves of Jamaica, Barbados, the Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands.
