    Have there been more songs recorded about New York City or Los Angeles?

    Hard thing to figure out, but here's a good a start as any-

    Here's the NY List:

    Looks like NYC wins by this imperfect measure.

    That's impossible to say, because it is impossible to keep track of each and every song "recorded" (that'd include a song you wrote and recorded it in your basement --- and even if you'd only take songs actually released into account it'd still require somebody listening to all of them AND check their lyrics for references) no matter what.

    As pitts0275 pointed out, the lists are a good starting point, but they are no more than that.

    My guess would be NY, but my guess is as good as anyones.
