When a star or a massive object collapes from their own gravity.

When a very large star (more than about three times the size of our sun) runs out of fuel, there is nothing to hold the outer layers out any more, so they sink downwards under the force of the star's gravity. Eventually the gas becomes so compressed that no force, not even the strong nuclear forces, can hold it and it collapses into a black hole. Some people think that smaller black holes could have been formed by the enormous forces that existed at the time of the big bang. These are known as primordial black holes.
