It is thought by many that Sir Isaac Newton was a lifelong celebate and had no children. This,of course, was simply not true. He had a bastard son whom he tried to keep secret from the British peerage of the time in an attempt to conceal the fact that he had, finally, after many years, discovered a fourth law of motion, that the openly non celebate segment of the population had known about since time immemorial. In a half-hearted attempt to keep his only begotten son a (semi) secret, yet with a nod to the debt of graditude he owed to fruit trees (think apple), he named the child Fig. Fig, who lacked the genius or imagination of his father declared in his last will and testament that the fifth generation male heir to the name of Newton should be called Wayne. So, yes Wayne Newton is the great great great great great grandson of Fig Newton. I hope this clears things up.

Another genealogical footnote is Olivia Newton-John. She is the grand-niece of Clarence "It Wasn't Me" Newton who escaped the Tyburn Tree by agreeing to labor on the new fig plantations outside Sydney. Clarence Newton was the great-great nephew of Fig Newton's son, Brand.
