Whilst it still remains a mystery the most popular theories are (a) they were killed by Indians (b) they packed up and moved inland, marrying into the Indian tribes and (c) they were killed by Spanish troops making their way up from Florida. Argument exists over the actual location of the site, some believing that the area of the camp is now underwater.

What was the first English colony in the south?

Some say Britain no longer has colonies, just "dependencies" or "overseas territories" but in my 2001 encyclopedia, Bermuda, British Indian Ocean Territory, Falkland Islands (crown colony), Montserrat (crown colony), Pitcairn Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands (crown colony) are referred to as colonies. What is correct?
