    		"Blackening the bride", and also "blackening the groom", is a pre-wedding tradition in which the bride or groom is covered with foul or disgusting substances and either tied to a tree or taken to the streets. Friends then clang pots to announce the wedding of the bride or the groom. It's believed that this practice helps to get the bride or groom accustomed to the difficulties they may face in her or his marriage.
