Who posed for the torch bearing goddess that is seen at the opening of every Columbia Pictures film?

Question #1225. Asked by Larry. (Apr 13 00 11:23 PM)

    Roxanne33

The modern logos for Columbia and TriStar Pictures. The model for the lady with the torch in the old Columbia Pictures logo was an actress from the 1930s named Claudia Dell. However, the logo was updated in the mid-1980s, and to the best of my knowledge, the current lady with the torch is no one in particular. Roxanne's reference has been reorganized and this page has more information. No mention of Joan Fontaine, and I did find a reference that said Fontaine never made a movie for Columbia Pictures, so I kind of doubt that it's her.

Claudia Dell -- Legend has it that Harry Cohn was so taken by her beauty that the Columbia Pictures' logo was designed in her image.
