This sounds like "The Two Frogs", in which one frog lived in a deep pond and the other in a shallow gully with very little water and which was crossed by a road. The pond frog warned the other of the dangers and invited him to live with him in the pond, where there was more food anyway. The other frog refused and said he liked his gully. A few days later, he was killed by a passing wagon.
