Focus group information compiled by CalComp revealed that 50 percent of computer users do not like using a mouse. Calcomp makes graphics tablets and digiizers, so I'm sure they were happy to find this out. CalComp has since gone out of business, according to their web site. It is now GTCO CalComp. I am one of those people that think a mouse is one of the worst possible computer interfaces. Right now I use a Logitech Trackman Marble Plus, both at home and at work. You do not have to reach all over to find it after using two hands for typing, it stays in one place. Also, I use a lot of keyboard quick commands (avoiding the point-and-click stuff, another big mistake). So for this it is handy to be able to keep my right hand on the trackball, and type most commands with my left. My fingers, wrist and arm do not get tired and sore from using it, as opposed to using a mouse. It drives the mouse users crazy at work, nothing happens when they try pushing the trackball around. It takes about a week to get used to a trackball when changing from a mouse, but it is worth it! Now if I could only get the work station rebuilt to fit me, and not Joe Typical. The chair cannot be raised high enough, the 21 inch monitor cannot be positioned correctly, and I hate those (expletive deleted) cubicles and the poor work environment they create. Sorry for the ranting, I guess I don't agree with a lot of the business trends these days. But that is an entirely different subject for another time and place.
