Half of the battle is won for getting that the link is Hastings (hence 1066 and all that) and for finding that the 1773 leader was the controversial first Governon-General of India Warren Hastings. Two more to go as the Harold is a nice try but we are looking for a national or international position not a mere earldom. Lord Hastings Ismay, 1st Baron Ismay, was the first Secretary-General of NATO, appointed 1952. Hastings Banda was the first President of Malawi beginning 1966.
